Mountain bikers and racing cyclists love South Tyrol for its almost endless cycling tours throughout the entire area and up to breathtaking mountains. Yet, more and more comfortable bicycle hikers are about to discover the South Tyrolean valleys for comfortable tours avoiding the extremes.
The supra-communal bicycle road network in South Tyrol was created with connections to the biking roadnet of the neighbouring regions and countries. For example, there is a new bike-hiking path from Sterzing/Vipiteno to Brixen/Bressanone, a lovely half day tour that links the Brennero Pass with the bike path network of the South Tyrolean valleys and lowlands. In Val Pusteria, it’s possible to cycle along the bike path from Obervintl/Vandoies di Sopra in the direction of Bruneck/Brunico up to East Tyrol in Austria. For return trips, the railway connections on the main routes of Valle Isarco and Val Pusteria offer a good alternative for tired bikers.
Smaller bike tours are recommended in many villages and towns using side roads and local bike paths where there is little traffic.
